Bangalore-based Ather Energy, a leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer, made headlines just days ago with the launch of their entry-level 450S and updated 450 X scooters. Now, the company has released its August sales report.
Last month, Ather Energy saw an impressive growth in electric two-wheeler sales, with 8,062 units sold – a 25.77% rise from 6,410 units sold year-on-year in the same period in 2022. The company’s overall figures rose even further by 2.6% compared to July of this year when they achieved 7,858 units sold. Their overall highest sales mark was achieved in May of 2023, with 15,256 units sold.
Factors affecting the sales performance
Sales rates were much lower in August compared to May’s peak. This deceleration was due to the central government’s revision of the FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) subsidy rates. The alteration caused a rise in Ather electric scooter prices from June 1, impacting the sales performance of June and July.
Ather Energy Chief Business Officer, Ravneet Singh Phokela, claims August acted as a month of recovery. He said: “We made it known we would launch the 450 series of scooters, so we presented three and we’re certain to get to a wider audience in the future.”
Features and specifications of the new scooters

Ather recently launched their new range of electric scooters on the Indian market. The entry-level 450S model is available at Rs 1,29,999 and has a 2.9 kWh capacity battery. It can take you up to 115 km on a single full charge. What’s more, the electric motor offers an impressive 5.4 kW (7.2 hp) of power and can take you from 0 to 40 kmph in less than 4 seconds. When it comes to charging, the battery pack requires 8 hours and 36 minutes at home to reach full charge.
As for the suspension and braking system, the 450S features front telescopic forks, a rear monoshock suspension setup, and disc brakes at both ends. If you are looking to upgrade, the 450 X (2.9kWh battery) and the 450 X (3.7kWh) are also available.
