What’s New?

Bajaj Auto is gearing up to launch a new electric scooter in the Indian market on January 9, 2024. The new scooter, named Bajaj Chetak Urbane, is an updated version of the existing Chetak electric scooter, which was launched in December last year. The new scooter will feature some mechanical and design changes, as well as a larger battery and a TFT screen.

Why It Matters?

Electric scooters are especially in demand, especially in urban areas, where they provide a convenient and eco-friendly mode of transport. Bajaj Auto, one of the leading two-wheeler manufacturers in India, is aiming to capture a larger share of this growing segment with its new product.

How It Compares?

The new Bajaj Chetak Urbane will compete with the premium electric scooters in the market, such as the Ather 450X, the TVS iQube, and the Ola S1 Pro. The new scooter will have a 3.2kWh battery pack, which will offer a range of 127 kilometers on a single charge. The current Chetak scooter has a 2.88kWh battery pack, which gives a range of 113 kilometers on a single charge. The new battery will take four hours and 30 minutes to fully charge, according to information leaked online. The new scooter will also have a higher top speed of 73 kmph, compared to the current top variant’s speed of 63 kmph.

Main update on the new scooter is the TFT screen, which will replace the existing LCD unit. The TFT screen will have features such as turn-by-turn navigation, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), remote lock/unlock, and Bluetooth connectivity. The new scooter will also have a storage capacity of 18 to 21 liters under the seat, which is similar to the current model.

What’s Next?

Bajaj Auto has not revealed any details about the price and availability of the new Bajaj Chetak Urbane. However, it is expected that the new scooter will be priced slightly higher than the current Chetak scooter, which starts from Rs. 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The new scooter will be available in select cities across India, where Bajaj Auto has set up its Chetak electric experience centers. The new scooter will also be available for online booking through the official website of Bajaj Auto.
