Simple Energy, a Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup, has launched its second electric scooter, the Simple Dot One, on December 15, 2023. The Dot One is positioned as a sub-variant of the Simple One, which was launched in August 2023. The Dot One is aimed at attracting new customers who are looking for an affordable and efficient electric scooter in the Indian market.
Design and Features
The Dot One shares its platform and design with the Simple One, but comes with a fixed 3.7 kWh battery pack instead of a removable 5 kWh battery pack. The Dot One also has a smaller touchscreen instrument cluster that supports Bluetooth and app connectivity. The e-scooter has over 30 litres of under-seat storage, which is the same as the Simple One. The Dot One features all-LED lighting, ride modes, reversing assist, telescopic front forks, a rear monoshock, and a disc brake setup.
Performance and Range
The Dot One claims to be the fastest scooter in its category, going from 0 to 40 kmph in just 2.77 seconds. The e-scooter has a top speed of 105 kmph, which is also the same as the Simple One. The Dot One has a certified range of 151 km and an IDC range of 160 km, which is lower than the Simple One’s 212 km range. The Dot One’s range is optimized by specially crafted tires that enhance the overall efficiency of the vehicle.
Pricing and Availability
The Dot One is launched at an introductory price of Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), which is significantly lower than the Simple One’s price of Rs 1.45 lakh. The Dot One will be available for pre-booking from December 15, 2023, and will be delivered to customers from January 2024. The Dot One will initially be available only in Bengaluru, where the company has its manufacturing facility. The company plans to expand its presence to other cities in the future.
Competition and Vision
The Dot One will compete with the Ola S1 X, which is another affordable electric scooter that offers a range of 181 km and a top speed of 90 kmph. The Ola S1 X is priced at Rs 1.1 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). The Dot One will also face competition from other electric scooters such as the Ather 450X, the Bajaj Chetak, and the TVS iQube.
The Dot One is part of Simple Energy’s vision to deliver accessible electric mobility to a larger audience. The company aims to be at the forefront of the ongoing global transition to green mobility, with more products in the pipeline and a core focus on R&D. Suhas Rajkumar, the founder and CEO of Simple Energy, said, “Our vision to deliver accessible electric mobility converges in the Simple Dot One, fusing sleek design with state-of-the-art features. We are eagerly anticipating its market launch, counting on the unwavering support of our esteemed customers.”
