Electric bikes are a great way to enjoy the outdoors while being kind to the environment. Not only are they cheaper than traditional motorbikes, they are also fun and offer an exciting way to explore. But not all electric bikes are the same, some stand out from the pack with their advanced designs, performance and features. Take the Zero electric bike for instance, this brand has been making waves in the electric bike world since 2006. In this article we will explore the Zero electric bike, its history, models and benefits. Regardless of whether you’re an experienced rider or just getting started, you will find something to love about the Zero electric bike.

Design

The 2022 Zero FXE is a supermoto-styled bike that looks sleek, modern, and futuristic. It is based on a concept collaboration with Huge Design, a San Francisco-based industrial design firm, that aimed to create a bike that celebrates the electric drivetrain and showcases the essential surfaces. The result is a bike that has minimal bodywork, floating seats, touch points, and LED lights. The bike also has a distinctive front headlight design and a beak that resemble the concept bike.

This bike features a steel frame, ZF 75-5 air-cooled motor, and 7.2 kWh battery, just like earlier models. But it has a different suspension setup, with Showa 41mm inverted fork and piggyback reservoir shock, adjustable for your specific needs. As far as the wheels and tires, the FXE runs on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, both with Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires.

At a weight of 247 pounds (112 kg), the FXE is one of the lightest electric bikes available. Not only that, it also has a seat height of only 32.9 inches (83.6 cm). That means FXE is accessible to riders of all sizes.

Performance

With a ZF 75-5 air-cooled motor and single-speed transmission, it delivers a powerful 46 hp (34 kW) and 78 lb-ft (106 Nm) of torque, with two riding modes for ultimate control – Eco and Sport. Eco mode limits the power output and regenerative braking to maximize your range, while the Sport mode unleashes the bike’s full potential with more aggressive regenerative braking.

Powered by a 7.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, you’ll be able to conquer riding scenarios in urban and suburban areas with ease. Thanks to the instant torque delivery and linear power curve, you can go from 0 – 60 in just 4 seconds. The estimated range of 91 miles (146 km) on city roads and 54 miles (87 km) on combined roads is sure to get you where you need to go faster. Charging with a regular 110V or 220V outlet takes just 9.7 hours or 1.8 hours with an optional accessory charger, giving you more time to ride. With a maximum speed of 85mph (137 km/h) you’ll be sure to enjoy every minute.

FXE’s lightweight form and agile geometry make it a breeze to navigate tight spaces and corners. Adjustable suspension adds to the comfort and stability of the ride, even across the roughest of terrain. Dual four-piston calipers at the front, combined with 320 mm discs, provide powerful and reliable braking, and a single-piston caliper and 240 mm disc at the rear make sure you can stop quickly and safely when you need to.

Features

The Zero FXE e-bike boasts several features that make it a step above the rest. With its roomy built-in storage compartment under the seat, you can pack a full-face helmet or any other item you need for your ride. The TFT display supplies a range of data like speed, battery level, ride mode, odometer, trip meter, clock, and more. With Bluetooth connectivity, you can sync your smartphone to the bike and enjoy features like navigation, music control, ride data logging, custom riding mode settings, firmware updates and more through the Zero app. The Zero FXE also has some other handy features that are becoming increasingly standard among electric bikes such as ABS, traction control, keyless ignition, belt drive, LED lights, USB charging port, etc.

Price

An investment in the FXE Zero Electric Bike is worth every penny. Sporting an impressive design, excellent performance, and numerous features, the FXE is priced at $11,795. With a one-year warranty, plus a five-year/unlimited-mileage warranty on the battery, the FXE offers reliable protection and peace of mind. Choose from two stylish colors: versatile black or sleek silver.

Conclusion

Boasting a sleek and modern design, the FXE electric bike offers an unbeatable and futuristic riding experience. Its minimalistic aesthetic pairs seamlessly with a powerful and smooth motor, a decent battery range and a host of useful features. Edging out other bikes of its ilk, the FXE is an excellent choice for everyday riders seeking an agile and versatile zero electric bike for urban and suburban use. Admittedly, though, this bike does come with some tradeoffs including a limited top speed, a long charging time, and a lack of removable battery option. Because of these downsides, serious ADV riders who demand a more rugged and capable zero electric bike for off-road adventures should likely look elsewhere. Despite this, the FXE remains a great addition to Zero’s lineup and a worthy player in the electric bike market.
