Ather Energy, a Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup, has started rolling out its latest offering, the Ather 450S electric scooter, from its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. The company’s co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta announced this on Twitter on September 2, 2023.
Ather 450S was launched in June this year at a starting price of Rs. 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). It is an upgraded version of the Ather 450X, which was launched in January 2020. The main difference between the two models is the battery size and range. The Ather 450S comes with a 3.7 kWh battery that offers a certified range of 150 km and a TrueRange of 110 km. The Ather 450X, on the other hand, has a 2.9 kWh battery that offers a certified range of 111 km and a TrueRange of 90 km.
Both the models have similar performance and features, such as a top speed of 90 km/h, a 0-40 km/h acceleration time of 3.3 seconds, a 17.7 cm (7-inch) touchscreen dashboard, and a Warp mode that delivers a peak torque of 26 Nm. They also come with the same colour options: Cosmic Black, Space Grey, Mint Green and White.
The Ather 450S is expected to compete with other electric scooters in the market, such as the Ola S1 Air, which was launched in August this year at a starting price of Rs. 99,999 (ex-showroom). The Ola S1 Air has a 2.98 kWh battery that offers a certified range of 121 km and a top speed of 90 km/h.

Ather 450S is currently available for booking on the company’s website, with deliveries starting from September 2023. The company also offers various financing options, such as EMI plans, lease plans and subscription plans. The customers can also avail the benefits of the FAME II subsidy and state subsidies wherever applicable.
The company has also revealed some details about its next e-scooter, which could be a family-friendly scooter with more storage space and comfort features. The company plans to launch this new model by the end of 2024.
Ather Energy is one of the leading electric vehicle makers in India, with a presence in over 30 cities across the country. The company has also set up its own charging network, called Ather Grid, which has over 300 fast-charging points in various locations. The company aims to expand its product portfolio and reach more customers in the coming years.
